Michigan gender equity team

“The world of humanity is possessed of two wings: the male and the female. So long as these two wings are not equivalent in strength, the bird will not fly."

Our Commitment:

The Michigan Gender Equity Team is devoted to actions that help make sure men and women receive equal treatment, by providing information, resources and sponsoring projects that can help. We are a group of organizations acting as a catalyst to achieve gender equity, at home, at school and, at work. We need your support for us to be able to do this. Your involvement is needed whether you are an individual or part of an organization. Get in touch with us.

Gender equity means an equal chance at learning for females and males, with open options to learn subjects and prepare for future education, jobs, and careers without expectations based on gender. Equal encouragement for both genders to develop, achieve, and learn is essential to equitable treatment of female and male students. The Federal Education Act, including the Title IX amendment, became law in 1972. In part, the amendment stated that, "No person in the US shall on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance". All US school districts were given until 1975 to make sure males and females received equal educational participation and benefits. It has been females who historically, were denied equal participation and benefits, but some males receive limited rights as well. This site is dedicated to the achievement of full equality for all.

The Michigan Gender Equity Team is a group of organizations acting as a catalyst to achieve gender equity, at home, at school and at work. All organizations form in an effort to bring together a group of like thinking individuals who want to maximize efforts to achieve their objectives. All effective organizations require a high level of involvement by individuals, as a prerequisite to their group success. Your personal involvement is required to achieve gender fair treatment at home, school and work.
